Pairs Competition 2020

A great win for Fergus Corbett and Stewart Daye who defeated Steve Malloy and President Ian Potter in a very competitive final.

Winners Corbett & Daye with Runners Up Potter and Malloy.

Things looked bad after the first end when Corbett/Daye took a 4 shot lead but Malloy/Potter hit back with a three. However, a further two in the third end and a policy of keeping the head clear in the final end meant that the runners up could only muster a single shot resulting in an overall score of 6-4 in favour of the winners.

Invitation Bonspiel 2020

An excellent turnout for our Annual Invitational Bonspiel which saw Giffnock field four teams against our local rivals. Sadly, we lost the overall match but an excellent evening of curling and camaraderie was had by all. Congratulations to winning visiting team Cathcart Castle and to the best performing Giffnock rink skipped by Alastair Kerr.

The Big 8-0

Congratulations to our very own Graham Steele who turned 80 this month… you would never know! (PS How many thought it was a story about an 8 ender?)

District Medal – Perth 19th January 2020

Giffnock were successful  in the District  Medal in Perth  today  beating  Ardblair  9 – 6. Congratulations to the Giffnock  team of Skip Fergus  Corbett, 3 Bruce Clarkson,  2 Alastair  Kerr  and Lead Ian Potter.

Points Competition & Christmas Meal – 2019

An excellent evening was held at Greenacres as our Annual Points Competition saw around 20 curlers battle it out.

When the results were in, defending champion Fergus Corbett found himself equal on points with Stuart Pollok and a final draw to the house was required to separate the two.

Stuart went first, and placed his stone almost on the pot lid, a shot which Fergus could not match. Stuart Pollok was therefore declared this year’s champion.

An excellent Christmas meal, with wine generously donated by our President Ian Potter, meant that everyone went home (on the bus) merry and fu’.
